We're learning how to
work with nudges in L&D

A Co-Creation project where a team of Offbeat Fellow explore how we can integrate nudges in our work as L&Ds

What we’re learning?

This is a co-creation project we’re running in the Offbeat Fellowship with the purpose of learning together, through practice, how to apply nudges in our work of Learning & Development Professionals.

Behavior Change

We're learning about different behavior change theories that can help us in our work as L&Ds as well.

Nudges

We get to brainstorm & experiment if & how nudges can help us in our efforts of supporting behavior change.

Running Experiments

We're learning through practice the process of running experiments & measure their results.

What’s our process?

Our board of advisors are guiding us through a process that’s very similar to what behavior scientists tipically use.

This was the very first thing we learned in our journey! Before implementing any behavior change initiative, we should understand exactly where our target audience stands in regard to the behavior we want to see more of. That's why we decided to run a survey, before even thinking about any nudges we could send. Our survey got over 112 responses, and we're currently analyzing the data. Stay tuned for updates of our process.

Once we've determined our baseline behavior, the next step will be to brainstorm different nudges we could test. We'll let you know how that goes!

We will use randomized control groups to test our nudges. We haven't gone so far as to think exactly how we'll split our audience, but we will most likely have 2-3 groups, one that will receive no nudge, and the other ones who will receive different series of nudges. This can also help us determine what series of nudges perform best.

We are making every effort to stick to a rigorous process, based on behavioral science methods, with the help of experienced professionals. This ensures we have relevant data to measure and we are eager to share results with you as soon as we have them!

We're all about sharing at Offbeat. So once the project is done, we will write the process we went through and our lessons learned both from our experiment & about behavior change and nudges.

The Project Team

Our team was formed voluntarily, by Offbeat Fellows that were interested in learning more about nudges and behavior change, and advisors that wanted to support our learning process.

What I have learnt is that when it comes to nudges, there is a lot to consider and I don't believe that nudges alone will change behaviour, so this is an interesting experiment to see if they do.

Annette Morgan
Learning and Development Partner at HDI Global SE

I love learning about why people behave in a certain way. This co-creation project about nudges has led me on a path of identifying my biases and why I behave in the way I do when it comes to learning. It’s a path I am happy to walk on.

Mihaela Pavelescu
People Experience Lead at Adore Me

So far, I've learned that it's crucial to do your research beforehand and to have a very clear goal when it comes to nudges. The process of defining how to get started, and how to personalize your nudges will make or break your project's success.

Letitia Stefan
Co-Founder & CEO @ Nifty

I've learned that there's no such thing as "easy process" when it comes to behavior change. If we really want to have an impact, we should have more depth when implementing behavior change initiatives.

Lavinia Mehedintu
Co-Founder & Learning Architect at Offbeat

Nudging is not an easy fix, fits all kinds of a solution. It needs to be directly linked to a research and clear objective on the desired behavior to be relevant.

Amalia Sandu
Senior Talent & Development Specialist at Ursus Breweries

I was enthusiastic to help Offbeat use the power of behavioural science to encourage a behaviour that would ultimately have a positive impact on their users' learning experience.

Michael Delaney
Freelance Behavioural Scientist

As both a behavioral scientist and trainer, I'm always happy to support when L&D activities incorporate the knowledge we have about human behavior.

Maria Douneva
Freelance Behavioral Scientist & Trainer

Encouraging people to stay curious & keep learning is probably the purest form of behavioural science.
